Here are the first several minutes of the episode Fortune Teller from the National Velvet (1960-62) tv series.

I actually have the entire episode & have tried to get the full episode up, but the program I use seems to only read the first few minutes of each four episodes contained on the DVD. I made several attempts to get them converted in their entirety, but to no avail. I hope others will enjoy this offering anyhow.

  • Thanks for sharing your National Velvet videos. I was very saddened to learn that Lori Martin passed away April 4; I had discovered her website in late March and had planned on writing her but now it's too late. May she rest in peace.

I am very pleased to share my National Velvet videos with you. I just wish I could manage to get a full episode up, but my editing program seems to only recognize the first ten minutes or so of any given episode. You're very welcome for thanking me.

Lori sang a catchy 1960s tune... Home Of The Boy I Love. A Beautiful song which showed her versatility as not only a great actress, but the fact that she had a lovely voice & could carry a tune.

  • I watched this show every afternoon after school, loved Lori Martin. She's disappeared and nobody seems to know what happened to her, I thought she was much prettier than Liz Taylor. Pity you can't get the whole show up but thanks for what you did put up, now it will keep me guessing as to what happened, no doubt King came out best of course. Oh & yes, I'm another Aussie.

Good on ya for being another fan from down under who has fond memories of this show.

I will try again to see if I can manage to get a full episode to go through, dahling. ;-). And you're most welcome! :-)

  • This is superb! I thought I was one of the only fans who called this series a wholesome program. It is fit for the entire family to view, a lot better than some of the other stuff on the tube. I wonder if Lori Martin, for example, realizes how many millions of fans are still out here watching her performances and wishing she would do some reprises even to this day! America needs her, the heroine character she played in this series. C'mon back Lori!

I too, hope Lori was aware of the fan base she has.

  • I can't believe I have found this site.I loved this show and always wished to see it again . It was really a beautiful wholesome show pity there not like that now.PLEASE does anyone know how I can obtain the episodes to keep.Memories are such a good thing.RO

I think she is very lovely too and looked more appropriate for the part since

she looked and was much younger than Taylor. I also think she plays the role

of Velvet Brown a lot better than Taylor.

  • I used to watch this on tv when I was a little girl. I wish they would put it on DVD.

  • I am so saddened to hear about Poor Lori Martin's passing. Her name was

Dawn Menzer, at birth; and her married name, I believe is Breitbucher-

    Dawn Breitbucher--

The poor lovely thing, she passed away at only 62 years old.

What a lovely young lady, at only 13, 14 years old here in National Velvet-

God rest her soul. I was in love with her, as probably millions of young boys my age all over the world. I am now 59, and cannot believe she is gone-

  • Loved this show when I was a kid. used to watch it on the b & w telly with my sisteers. The fire was one episode i loved...I am an Aussie too!

  • @9bahai9 Martin died on April 4.

  • Lori Martin was my first crush! I loved her! I hope she's doing well today.

  • I only wish the movie and the tv series got it right. In Enig Bagnold's wonderful novel, the horse is a piebald (another name for a pinto) - that's why he was called The Pie, short for "piebald." He was black and white. It shouldn't have been too difficult to find a black-and-white pinto to play the part.

  • I have made contact with a member of her family and am doing my best to get the questions by you all answered. Please give me time and I will post on the IMDB site message board. If any of you wish to contact me please do so at malcolmjames@london.com

  • @malc239 Thanks for the effort. We asked the Chamber of Commerce and Presbyterian church where her memorial was if they had any helpful info, not wishing to bother her survivors, and only Chamber responded did not know of that local person. It would provide a bit of closure for fans who adored her if, at least a cause of death is noted.
