It's time someone spoke up for anoraks!

I don't hang round in airports with binoculars to hand
And what makes buses interesting, I don't understand.
I don't write engine numbers down beside a railway track,
And yet it's true, I must confess, that Im an anorak.

I take no kind of interest in cult series on TV
So no weird Star Trek convention holds the least appeal for me.
I don't recall the plots of soaps from twenty-five years back,
And yet you'll all agree that I am still an anorak.

For collecting coins and matchbox labels I don't have much use;
The only thing that I collect's a great load of abuse.
I have no album full of stamps; I own no Penny Black
But everyone I know is sure that I'm an anorak.

Although I am the outdoor type and what suits me the best
Is the cold and windy weather that most normal folk detest,
Enthusiasm for the sun is something that I lack
I hang around indoors all summer; I'm an anorak.

A lot of people ridicule the way I look, it's true,
They say I'm sad and, I'll admit, I sometimes can be blue.
But I'm the kind of jacket that can take the verbal flak
For that is what I am: a polyester anorak.

So think before you mock me as a nerdy uniform:
I may not be the coolest but that's just because I'm warm
It could be so much worse: I'm no Kagoul or Pacamac;
I'm proud to be in every way a total anorak.

  • Oh dear. I am married to an Anorak. Thank you for explaining the phenomena. I think I might learn that song on my guitar for therapy.

  • @loonah23 Does this mean that you and a weatherproof outer garment are inseparable, or that your spouse displays evidence of an OCD? (Don't worry - it's a rhetorical question.) Whichever, I hope that playing the song will prove to be therapeutic! Many thanks for commenting.

    Best wishes,

    Paddy

  • @Kittielips I don't do wrap - can't get my fingers pointing in enough different directions, innit? Mind you, if I get any more arthritic, I might have to try a hip 'op!

    Love,

    Paddy
