an audience pleasing ending if ever there was one!
-
@fanblow maybe because the Cassavettes character is such an evil character that perhaps the producer/director wanted to give him the demise he deserves and the audience expects.
-
@fanblow for the shock value i guess.it is hollywood after all.

PMT is a wonderful thing.

@fanblow John Farris did the screenplay based on his own novel, maybe in the DVD extras they explain why the change. Anyway is an spectacular ending.

Way before CGI technology, a classic example of good old fashioned make up special effects. I remember watching this movie when I was 14, everything was an ok suspense/thiller story, and then BAM!, ends like this. I had nightmares for about 6 months.
Thanks for share.

wtf is up with the 20th Century Fox fanfare?

In the novel, Amy Irving's character kills John Cassavette's character by suffocating him with a heavy rain coat. Why the blood gore pointless change?

He blowed up real good!!!!
Or has someone said that already?
No wonder Steven Spielberg gave Amy Irving such a generous divorce settlement!
