Ann Marie talks about social media and homelessness

Today I met Ann Marie for the first time in person. Well, truth is I connected with @padschicago a few months back on twitter. Ann Marie is homeless and she uses social media to help tell the world her story and to fight away loneliness.

I forgot she lived in Chicago but last night she reminded me via twitter so today we connected at a train station. She wanders around this train station.

Ann Marie contacted me. she knows the work I do online to help the homeless and she wanted her story told.

if you follow her @padschicago you'll see in her own words the help she received. behind the scenes I also personally helped her but how is really no ones business but hers.

Because this story is being told there are a group of people trying to help her that otherwise would not have noticed.

Ann Marie has fallen through what we call in homeless services the 'gap in the safety net' - she should not be on the streets sleeping outside and hopefully this video and her story will help expedite her finding the help she needs

Safety net? The homeless shelters are more dangerous than sleeping outside.. Invasive buggers.. Glad I am no longer homeless.

Twitter & other social networking sites R raising consciousness by connecting us in ways we never dreamed possible. I am so glad that Ann Marie has access; & a way 2 feel > connected 2 other ppe. It is a true blessing.

Many groups R coming together, learning & growing. It's electric! LOL The world is a better place with the internet & Twitter.
