@M3anDAD There are several 1500m world record holders who were then able to add the 5000m world record to their resumes. Said Aouita is the most glaring example of late. Otherwise I agree with you: the 5000m WR was a bit beyond El G's reach.

@bestofMD el guerrouj had the 1500m speed unlike Bekele but Bekele had the 10,000m edurance when el Guerrouj. i dont think el Guerouj would be able to break the WR, because he is MIDDLE DISTANCE king, and 5000m is not Middle Distance

Gebrselassie... so smooth and strong. This was one of Gebrselassie's strongest years on the track despite the trouble he had with injury in the early 2000's... but in 03' he came back really strong. His new fitness level provided an incredible setup for Ethiopia as a team because it meant Gebrselassie could draw out the pace and dominate the race early on.. indicating a sweep such as this one. Gebrselassie really turned on the fire and took one for the team here. What a great show. Grats Bekele.
