I accidentally discovered how to grow algae balls in my tilapia fry tank. I added an air stone with enough air to keep the water roiling. This keeps the string algae in suspension and makes it grow in a ball. It makes more balls when a chunk comes off. The fry keep it trimmed for the most part.

  • would these be ok for feeding newborn betta fry?

  • @boomminimanboom

I have no idea what betta fry eat.

  • Do you have any idea how the algae balls developed? Please Share. I heard it is a good food source for cichlids. Please share

  • I have some algal moss. I toss little bits of it in the tank where the air bubbles spin it. As it grows it is forced to grow as balls.

Only cichlids that eat plants will find them tasty. Many are meat eaters.
