A newly restored 1920 Steinway Duo-Art grand plays two 1920s hits performed by Frank Milne and Rube Bloom. Milne was one of Aeolian's most prolific artists for popular music. Rube Bloom (1902-1976) was a noted popular composer and frequent artist for Aeolian. The piano is for sale at www.historicpianos.com. "Hi-Ho the Merrio" was written by Benny Davis and Lew Brown (1893-1958), and composed by Con Conrad (1891-1938). Lyrics:

I wake up each mornin'
Singin' merrily.
Hi-ho the merrio
As long as she loves me.

I can laugh at troubles,
Im happy as can be
Hi-ho the merrio
As long as she loves me.

Just like a rooster I keep crow-in'.
She started somethin' and she's got me goin'.

Bring on all your bundles.
Bring 'em COD.
Hi-ho the merrio
As long as she loves me.

"Thanks for the Buggy Ride" was written and composed by Jules Buffano. Lyrics:
Thanks for the buggy ride. Thanks for the buggy ride.
I had a wonderful time.
No smell of gasoline. Just an old fashioned team.
It was quite a treat to hear the patter of horses feet.
I go to an evening show.
I took it at a slow.
It was all new to me

I was used to riding in a big limosine.
But buggy ridin' lovin' sure beats any machine.
But although I lost my pride, Thanks for the buggy ride.
I had a wonderful time.

They also throw in great musical quotes of "Reuben, Reuben (or Rachel, Rachel) I've been Thinking" and "Jingle Bells."

  • The second pianist is Rube Bloom (1902-1976) who was very real, not an Aeolian psuedonym! beautiful restoration, the Duo-Art is playing very well - but why was the incorrect fallboard decal used?

  • Thanks for correction on Rube Bloom: I had bad source that included his name among the many Milne pseudonyms (like Leith and Addison.) Two reasons for the older style fallboard decal: one, to better cover the ghosts of a larger decal used in an iffy 1970 rebuild, and also the original tiny block-lettered "Steinway-Duo-Art Pianola" decal that would have been on this when new is my least favorite Steinway label.
