Five to ten percent of women in their reproductive years have severe premenstrual symptoms or Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. But an additional 20 percent have symptoms significant enough to impact their lives. Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are beginning to understand the biology behind the disorder.

  • I'm considering having a hysterectomy at the age of 27 due to chronic PmDD. It has taken over my life. I have tried to kill myself three times with a knife which at the time, felt like a normal thing to do. On the last day of my period, I return to myself again and cannot identify with the person who only a week ago was trying to stab herself in the stomach. I hope that there aren't a lot of women out there going through this, it's utter hell.

  • I am a textbook example of PMDD-Severe.

  • i GOT THIS BACK ONCE i ADDED DAIRY BACK IN DIET.

  • I'm on the generic brand of paxil 40mg. and It helps alot.

  • I started taking the pill and I found it helped so much. I've only been on it a month but I havent' experienced the PMDD yet... it is so horrible. At times i've had to lock myself up just to prevent myself doing something stupid like cutting off my hair or commiting suicide. It makes you so ill, mentally and physically, I don't understand how some can't accept it is a disorder.

  • im 15 years old and a junior in high school. last year i suffered a severe case of pmdd. for the longest time my doctors didnt know what i had or how to cure it. it caused me to miss a lot of days of school, let my basketball team down when i was to sick to play basketball, and couldnt have fun at family vacations. pmdd is a serious condition and i hope people learn about it soon

  • very interesting. I've spoken to my psych about this for myself on numerous occasions. He has scoffed it off. Still yet I experience similar PMDD occurrences each month that are barely tolerable. I'm glad to see Dr's out there doing research on this topic. Thank you.
