12/25/2011 note: I still have and use this machine. It is a real workhorse and provides consistent results. The same model's still sold, a testament to its durability. You can get them on Amazon for only $59: http://tinyurl.com/oster5838

Just a quick video from my G1 phone, no high quality here! I'm trying out the Oster 5838 bread machine my mom found for me at a yard sale. She owns one and really likes it. I made a basic 100% whole wheat recipe from Oster's website. The only thing I changed was adding 4 tsp wheat gluten.

100% Whole Wheat Bread

Ingredients

- 1-5/8 cups water
- 2 tsp salt
- 4 2/3 cups whole wheat flour
- 4 tsp wheat gluten (not in original recipe)
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 tsp active dry yeast

Directions

- Measure and add liquid ingredients to the bread pan.
- Measure and add dry ingredients (except yeast) to the bread pan. .
- Use your finger to form a well (hole) in the flour where you will pour the yeast. Yeast must NEVER come into contact with a liquid when you are adding ingredients. Measure the yeast and carefully pour it into the well.
- Snap the baking pan into the breadmaker and close the lid.
- Press "Select" button to choose the Whole Wheat setting.
- Press the "Crust Color" button to choose light, medium or dark crust.
- Press the "Start/Stop" button

  • that is a very good machine i have the same one, friends bought it back from the states for me for 12.00, also have a big black and Decker makes up to 3 lb loaf i like the Oster bread machine much better with one bread paddle

  • @ilovstodance It is a good one. I'm finding breadmakers are addicting! I love getting them at the thrift store and putting them through their paces. The best I've found so far is a DAK Turbo Baker II. It caught my eye because it reminded me of R2D2, and it turns out to make awesome dough. I don't like making bread in it because it makes a huge 6" diameter cylinder, but it's great for dough. You put the dry ingredients in first, then the wet. Great $3 find. I'll have to make a video about it.

  • Nice garage sale find there!!!!!

  • @TexasMom17 Sorry I didn't see your comment until now! If you Google the model number, the first hit *should* be Oster's website. They have a PDF there.
