Junior Hockey Coach Trips Opposing Players

Vancouver -- A minor league hockey coach was arrested in Vancouver after a post-game handshake led to a 13-year-old player tripping and possibly breaking his wrist.

Martin Tremblay, the coach of the UBC Hornets, claimed to have slipped as he approached a line-up of opposing players on the Richmond Steel team.

The Hornets had just won the gold medal in a tournament played at UBC's Thunderbird Arena after defeating the Richmond Steel last Saturday.

In a video obtained by CTV News, Tremblay was standing right next to two players on the opposing team when his foot moved. The two players tripped and fell. One of the players, a 13-year-old, is undergoing x-rays to determine whether his wrist is broken.

Sergeant Paulena Gidda of the UBC RCMP detachment said the incident was witnessed by parents, spectators and other players in the arena and the police were called.

"Things were heated with the onlookers when we arrived," said Gidda Wednesday morning. "The coach was arrested and spoken with and released a short time later pending charges."

Gidda said RCMP is still actively investigating and the coach was initially charged with assault right after the incident. However, if the player's wrist is broken, a more serious charge could be laid.

I'm not sure how you make the comparisson of Child abuse & tripping a player at a hockey game where he accidently sprains/breaks his wrist (the story differs depending on where you get your info) Yeah the coach is a douche bag for doing what he did, but we don't hand out emotional sentences or make an example of someone because it's anti bully day. (coincidence i think not) And yes depending on the nature of the probabtion it can affect your ability to move around.
