A great bluessong originally recorded by Willie Brown for the Library of Congress in 1942. This Willie Brown was not "the" Willie Brown who accompanied Son House and Charley Patton but a total unknown musician (who was never heard of afterwards btw).

Willie Brown played this song in G position standard tuning and capoed at the 7th fret. This means he was playing in a even higher postion than my ukulele tuning (which is the same as a guitar capoed at the 5th fret - except that the top string of the ukulele is an octave higher than the guitar string).

This is a very simple accompaniment and works well on the uke - less is more in this case.

I'm playing my brandnew tenor "mya-moé" ukulele made of mango wood - the wood still spreads a wonderful fruity scent - that's why I look so intoxicated probably ;-)

This song is part of my ebook/tablature called
"Fingerpicking Blues Ukulele" Volume 1
It's available at my website, as well as volume 2

  • Nice one Carl!

I've noticed you checking out some uke clips & wondered what you had in the pipeline... As ever you've come up with the goods!

So, how long have you had that uke? It sounds really sweet!

I also have a tenor uke, just a cheap one though, I'm enjoying it a lot... if I could play it half as good as you I'd be very happy.

Very tastefully shot video by the way, and a cool hat of course!

    All the best,

    Chris.

  • Thanks all.

I received the uke yesterday but have cheap one to work out the arrangement.

  • Criminetlies! You are selecting the strangest, most already-odd blues pieces (and this is one, for sure) and then skewering them on strangled tiny instruments with impeccable finger picking while wearing REALLY WEIRD HATS. I hope the Belgian Library of Congress records you! (If they have one.)
