(a) Green indication.—
2. Vehicular traffic facing a green arrow signal, shown alone or in combination with another indication, as directed by the manual, may cautiously enter the intersection only to make the movement indicated by such arrow, or such other movement as is permitted by other indications shown at the same time, except the driver of any vehicle may U-turn, so as to proceed in the opposite direction unless such movement is prohibited by posted traffic control signs. Such vehicular traffic shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection.
(c) Steady red indication.—
a. The driver of a vehicle which is stopped at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or, if none then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection in obedience to a steady red signal may make a right turn, but shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and other traffic proceeding as directed by the signal at the intersection, except that municipal and county authorities may prohibit any such right turn against a steady red signal at any intersection, which prohibition shall be effective when a sign giving notice thereof is erected in a location visible to traffic approaching the intersection.

Green arrow gives U-turn right of way over drivers turning right on red

Michael Turnbell

TRANSPORTATION COLUMNIST

January 20, 2008

Q I'm waiting for a left-turn arrow to make a U-turn. Drivers on the intersecting street can turn right on red. Most of the time I yield to the other driver, even though I have the arrow. Who has the right of way?

Milton Blau, Delray Beach

A. You do, as long as there isn't a sign prohibiting U-turns.

Drivers making right turns on red are supposed to stop and yield to pedestrians and other traffic that has the right of way before making the right turn, and then turn as tightly as possible toward the inside curb.

But remember, the law also says drivers making U-turns must make sure they aren't interfering with the flow of traffic.

Q When will the Hollywood exit on Florida's Turnpike get a SunPass-only lane?

Danny Cuthbert, Davie

A. A project to untangle the Hollywood interchange isn't scheduled to begin until 2010 or 2011.

Plans call for a new southbound entrance ramp to bypass the toll plaza. The existing southbound entrance ramp will be eliminated.

The southbound exit ramp will be lengthened and split into separate lanes for SunPass users and those paying cash. Three left-turn lanes would be created from the toll plaza to westbound Hollywood Boulevard to prevent traffic from stacking up beyond the toll booths.

A few years ago, officials said plans for two SunPass-only ramps — a new northbound entrance ramp from westbound Hollywood Boulevard and a new southbound exit ramp to westbound Hollywood Boulevard — would be put on hold until enough turnpike drivers paid tolls electronically.

Q Are there any plans to widen the entrance from southbound Interstate 75 to the Palmetto Expressway in northwest Miami-Dade County? I dread driving to Miami in the morning because of the long line of cars waiting to go south.

David Allphin, Pembroke Pines

A. es, but construction is years away.

The interchange upgrade is a major component of the state's plans for improving I-75 from I-595 to the Palmetto, and the Palmetto itself from I-75 to Northwest 103rd Street.

Those plans call for reversible express lanes in I-75's median; a separate busway for rapid-transit buses along I-75; a full interchange at Florida's Turnpike; reconfiguring the Griffin Road, Sheridan Street, Pines Boulevard and Miramar Parkway exits with new ramps that favor traffic entering I-75 rather than exiting traffic; a new overpass at Pembroke Road; a new interchange south of Miami Gardens Drive; and, lastly, improving the interchange that connects I-75 with the Palmetto and the Gratigny Parkway.

Officials are looking at building a new ramp from southbound I-75 to a new frontage road that would parallel the southbound Palmetto and cross over Northwest 122nd Street before merging into the Palmetto north of Northwest 103rd Street. The frontage road is designed to separate Palmetto drivers from I-75's merging traffic.

Total cost is about $600 million.

  • @DashCamFL you're an Idiot, he had a green arrow,HE had the right of way, this happened to me a week ago and I almost got out of the car to kick his ass cos hedidn't admit fault but he finally did

  • @muh6666 Yes, if he had a green arrow then I would be wrong. Honest question, are you from Florida? The truck that turned right would have been seeing a red light, so he has to yield to traffic and pedestrians.

If he had the option for a green arrow, my lane would have a no u-turn sign. Also from personal experience ( I have driven down state road 1 before ) there is no green arrow option for people making a right turn.

  • @DashCamFL Also , every time I have seen a green arrow for a right turn in south Florida , the right lane turns slightly to the right with a curb separating the right turn lane from the center lane.

Anyhow you probably don't believe me so I will post a video in a few days showing the other side of the intersection , it will be titled FOR MUH666

  • @DashCamFL you think? he definetly did, you should thank god he doesnt have road rage and deceide to kick your ass at the next red light

  • @DashCamFL I was just asking 'cause of the license plate blockers - for plates that come in from the side of the screen, you should be able to keep the block image out of view (if you're using the Pan Event feature to move them around), make a keyframe just before the plate comes into view, and then track it (so there isn't a floating square blocking nothing for a time). I use Vegas 9 Movie Studio. It's very tedious to do.

  • @NOVAdashcam vegas movie studio platinum 10, think it cost 50 bucks at amazon.com
