Incentivising bad behavior, like smoking, not going for preventive screenings etc, to achieve a goal for the healthplan may be an effective strategy in the short term and for once in lifetime events but it is a poor strategy when it comes to routine healthcare. So many companies now dole out incentives to patients to do what they should already have done in the first place. There is now a full blown industry doing that.
Does it help in the long run? Does it riase your premiums? Does it come at cutting care you could have been entitled to with that money that was doled away?
