  • Also, disagree about the superiority of the Republic completely. The logic ultimately fails, as Plato's logic often does.

  • @terez27 yes we don't subscribe to everything Plato states and disagree with a lot of his theories/works. However our main point is the total myth disseminated worldwide today that democracy is the best form of govt. In a democratic society of 1MM people, if 500,001 people vote in favors but 449,999 people oppose a proposition, then the 449,999 people that oppose something suffer. to us, this is hardly an ideal form of govt.

  • @smartknowledgeu Again, I disagree. Our current form of government, the Republic, is pseudo-democratic and ends up being so far removed from the wishes of the populace that we are in effect ruled by the wishes of a VERY small elite. How is that better than 'majority rules'? And how would you propose to prevent that scenario? Better the 500,001.

  • @terez27 and again, i disagree with you. just because leaders call something a republic or democracy does not mean it is. US an oligarchy? yes. a Republic? certainly not. Just b/c Alan Greenspan and nobel prize winning economists blamed "free markets" for our current global monetary crisis, does not mean free markets exist. I guarantee you they do not.

  • @smartknowledgeu Well, sure 'free markets' don't exist, but where have they ever existed in the industrialized world? Ideally, a Republic should represent the interests of the people without allowing the majority to hang itself or abuse minorities, but ideally the people should be a strong force in the checks and balances of government, which is not the case even in the idealized version of our Republic.

  • @terez27 this time i agree. but also in a democracy, the people should be a strong force in checking the oligarchs but it does not function this way. or of course, you can say a democracy does not exist in nearly every country that claims it is a democracy. so both republics and democracies have strengths and faults and it is just a matter if what form of govt you believe grants the people more power to check the abuse of power by oligarchs.

  • @smartknowledgeu Right, I think my whole point was that the one isn't necessarily better than the other. I have a feeling that you and I would disagree about a lot of things in the realm of economics, but the power of the people to petition government in a modern, meaningful way is something we can all get behind, isn't it? In this sense our form of government is antiquated. It's up to us to change that, as outlined in the Declaration of Independence.

  • the last CD i bought was in the 1980's. Even with free mp3 of todays, i haven't downloaded any mp3 for years. Today's music are junk noise.

politicans use the term democracy because 99% of population connect it to freedom and justice so they basically spewing out what the people want to hear although the people misunderstood what democracy really is

  • You could make the same point about music from an academic perspective, where musicians and music teachers are trained, as you did about art. Have you listened to John Cage?

  • sigh, it seems whenever we expose evil in our society, we run into the rockefellers. i wish we could just throw them all in a hole somewhere, bury them and keep it moving.
