  • Why did you run it from your Laptop when u could have connected it to your Desktop pc and run it with much improved Fps?

  • @zackdrink2 Because the entire thing is self-contained. Meaning I can spin around as many times as I want and not get tangled up in wires.

  • @cybereality But could you do that Wireless in any way?

  • @zackdrink2 Yes, there are wireless options. They would require something like the ASUS WAVI and a custom built battery pack. Some guys on the MTBS3D forums have made similar setups that are wireless. It was just easier for me to use my laptop.

Amazing Cyber! It really makes me want to buy a HMD!

    I have a question though:

I noticed you were aiming with your head and gun alike,

Are there any FPS that support separate sight and gun tracking, so you can look around with the HMD and independently aim with the wii remote?

If not, I think it would be reasonably easy to hack Quake to do so, considering all the hacks that game has had(and probably even stereo 3D). I'd have done it myself if I could :(

  • @omarcortes88 Vuzix has a mod for Unreal 2004, that lets you do independent gun and headtracking. You can also do this with ARMA 2 using the TrackIR. But of course, if you have the source code to a game you can implement this natively.

  • @cybereality Ok :)

  • @JEPiel Thanks man! I did have a button that would let me re-center it. Basically what it did was disable the gun tracking (while I held it) and then I could move the gun back to a neutral position. But I actually did not have to use it as often as you would think (not at all for this video).

  • My hero! That is a positively AWESOME setup, Cyber.

Do you have any way to reset "zero" on the gun + HMD while in-use? I've always had trouble with gyro\inertial sensor setups and drift (though I imagine you're having a better time keeping your head stationary by making adjustments with the wiimote+)

Thanks for sharing- you're really pioneering something great there.

  • @cybereality Forget 5.1, go with 7.1 Surround.

Also, you should try to use Noise-Cancelling Headphones. Yeah, they won't block out all of the sound, but they will still make a huge difference. I am wearing Noise-Cancelling headphones right now. They're from Bose. Got them as a Christmas present.
