The sun is setting on the golden age of the automobile - the new ones will get phoniminal mileage, be clean for the environment and protect the occupants should an accident occure. But the style, passion and love of the automobile is also dying with the cars that we all would dream about - muscle cars, sports cars and all those cars in between that didn't make sense but still stir-ed passion.
Young engineers today are not taught how things were made in years gone by. I worked once in an iron foundry while attending college . We had patterns from the civil war in the very back of the warehouse..

Old cars were made by hand.
The men and women who build the beauty in cars of the day, had real passion for what they were building.
Now, cars are mass produced by robots. Sure, they may have the best of technology, but without the pride and passion of old...

Love all of them, especially the A55 Cambridge. Had the A60 Van version of this (a 1970) many years ago. Column change with a B Series engine.

My MGB has no cruise control, a/c, traction control, MP3 player, automatic transmission, anti lock brakes, power windows, door locks, seats, or fuel injection. There's something great about being connected to the car itself. You can also smell the gas and oil as you drive. Nice shots of the car show JCV.

Phenomenal mileage?
When they talk of new small cars doing 60mpg it reminds me of the Austin Metro HLE doing 60.5mpg back in the early 1980's.
So much for progress.
