Work in progress for BSG mod of Starshatter. BSG mod is not made by me, I only do the explosions and other effects. Visit Starshattermods.com for more info.

  • is this BTRL?

  • No. This is for Starshatter: the gathering storm. This has nothing to do with BTRL.

  • Well, I see your problems with orientation in space with this game, and I agree. I ´ve seen other games do better telling you wich direction you go. Im still not sure if I want the mod to be used in standar newtonian or relaxed mode. I always felt the AI doenst handle well full newtonian flight, and performs best in relaxed. For now I use relaxed mode, and fighters have very powerful trhusters so you can go side-ways , backwards etc. just like in full newtonian.

  • Thanks for your efforts. You should click the "reply" button near the comment of the person you want to specifically address so they'll be notified by e-mail.

So you mean "relaxed" as in the FLCS making your thrusters neutralize your motion so you're almost always thrusting in the direction your nose is pointing, or do you mean "relaxed" as in "full arcade mode" where there's drag in space?

  • Oh lol, Thanks for the tip.

" Relaxed " mode has drag in space, but still has inertia. In fact Relaxed is still newtonian flight , but with added drag. The amount of drag can be changed, so you can quite make your own custom space flight model.

In newtonian mode the AI tries to evade making a lot of turns, wich bleeds its speed and leaves them like a cat on ice surface: they run and run furiously, but dont go anywere. Tweaking the ships could fix this, but I need more testing.

  • And for the raiders, it can be looked into and try to fix it.

Space dust can be toggled on/off in options. No space dust was used during the video.

For the fliped hulls, if you refer to the one at 0:58, thats not actually a basestar, its a Cylon cruiser. It wasnt in the TV series but its in the mod along with frigates, destroyers etc. to add more flavor if desired. Im focusing mainly in the TV show ships only-I didnt thought it would cause confusion. Sorry for that.

  • Can someone explain what this is I am looking at? Yes yes I know its BSG etc etc but what game is this?

  • w00t! im getting mod and game NOW :D

  • I see. I think it doesn't look good on this game if they couldn't program effective AI fighting under full newtownian mechanics (and they don't exactly make it easy for players using those mechanics either).

Hopefully you'll fix the HUD to make it easier to tell where you're going, where your target is relative to your gun sights, and space snow that turns into streaks making it easier to intuitively tell where your inertia is and how fast you're going.

  • I see about the Cylon cruiser.

One of the worst things about this game was how hard to use the HUD was.

The velocity vector cross was very hard to see, there was no arrow around the centre of the HUD to show where it might be if it was off your field of view, and the lack of visible space dust (NOT the 1-pixel space snow in the standard game) made it difficult to see where you were going if you weren't using arcade controls.

I hope your mod makes the game easier to control fighters with.
