Several years ago an old pocket watch was rediscovered, which caused
quite a stir. This little ball-shaped watch is one of the rarest and oldest
types of watches at all, the pomander watches. Except this rediscovered
chronometer only one single additional exemplar, from the
year 1530, exists worldwide. (Walters Art Museum, Baltimore / USA)

With probably the most extensive researches, ever made
with a pocket watch, many secret signatures, 2 x the year 1505
and many other unique engravings have been found.
The multitude of researchers'/experts' reports/indices
etc. and found signatures prove that Henlein has
manufactured this watch during his 4-year
asylum in the Franciscan monastery.
The short running time of 13 hours and several
more evidences, such as the Latin inscription
DVT ME FUGIENT AGNOSCAM R
(1505 My watches will work and perceive the correct time),
lead to the conclusion that it was even the very
first portable watch manufactured by Peter Henlein.

Jahr 1530. (Walters Art Museum in Baltimore / USA)
DVT ME FUGIENT AGNOSCAM R

  • So back in 1505 there was only 15 hours in a day ? Their lives must have gone by real fast. I'm glad we got 24 hours. I hope in the future we'll get even more :)

  • @FishBowl911 I think you are missing something. It is 24 hours, but you probably only saw the 15 as highest number. Please watch the video carefully and you will see the 24!

  • Read this and you should also the corresponding website and you know how this will fit into a pocket:

    Case diameter: 4,5 cm

    Case weight: 38,5 g

    Movement diameter:3,60 cm x 3,55 cm

  • Now that is fascinating that a watch was made 600 years ago. Thanks for the video and information.

  • It seems blasphemy to ask , how much is it worth ?

  • So, is that Henlein's hair at 1:46?

  • @FishBowl911 dude , you make no sense. you will still live the same amount of suns and the same amount of moons even if you change the hours. today's time is the most appropriate and exact way to measure time. biologically we are meant to sleep at night and wake in day, so that would be useless.

  • Haha, "POCKET - WATCH" (as if that would fit in a pocket.)

  • Made in China.....100/%

  • So similar in design to the "egg" at the Walters, yet the craftsmanship is just not there on this piece.

I'd love to know more about the provenance of this piece. Where is it now? In a private collection or museum. Who has verified this thing is even legit, exactly? It looks right mechanically for the period, but the materials and craftsmanship just look, wrong.

I also don't understand the theory that this could be his first watch. If the inscription reads "watches" , plural, well . . .

  • I heard that these early-(watch clocks) if they kept time within 2 hours a day, it was considered good. They were more objects of curiosity than real time-pieces. I noticed a certian irrregular beat, they ran like a wind-up toy. As the mainspring wound down they also slowed down&they were affected by temputure changes as well. It took well into the seventeenth century before the watch was accurate to within minutes a day.
