  • Trombones? A German Practice, but not usual in Handel's writing!

  • @1401JSC

In the age of internet and google it is very easy to do some research before claiming such statements.

Nothing to do with german practice! Israel in Egypt is one of the few pieces which Handel composed also for trombones!

  • Handel revised the work for a reprise in in 1757 at which time he did perform it with trombones. It was originally scored with trombones in 1738 because Handel was using a trio of players regularly in his works and they were no longer in London at the time of the reprise at the end of his life.

  • Great!!

  • @MonteverdiChor

    1. It was a question!

    2. "few" = "not usual" so we are not in disagreement ;p

    3. I knew about trombones in "Saul", but in spite of studies on "Israel in Egypt" in 1973, I had not retained this information for which I thank you.

In this performance these trombones are modern copies of which English sackbut maker?

  • Best of the Best. Especially liked them in that minimalistic vrsion of Orphee et Euridice with Magdelena . as the Blessed spirits.
