"There's a gap in tradition that ne'er will be filled
A wide gap that ne'er shall be mended
On the hill o'er town we laid you down
'Twas sad that your young life ended." from the late Junior Crehan, Mullagh, County Clare. http://www.ramblinghouse.org/2009/07/willie-clancy-1918-73/

  • I love the footage but the use of Elton John is most inappropriate?!?!?!?

  • Please would the person responsible come and explain to us all--in this public forum--why the pop-ish sounds made by one Reginald Kenneth Dwight [who apparently requires two identities, the other being 'Elton John'] should have been considered at all relevant as background music in a video clip celebrating a musical giant like Willie Clancy!?

Was it considered too obvious to slide some of his own matchless recordings as appropriate music in this tribute to one of Ireland's greatest pipers?

  • Bannerman, thanks for the video, BUT ceol elton seán.

  • @clarebannerman indeed he did, an iconic character muiris was, and lest we forget that it was he that came up with the whole concept of a summer school to learn traditional irish music, as a tribute to his close friend which we now know as the '' Willy Clancy Festival''

  • Pure nostalgia, loved the young Muiris Rohans tribute as Gaeilge,

  • A great Piper - thank you for this nice video
