At the Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting, Chairperson, Debra Buchanan opened discussion on the Henry County Sheriff's Office Gun Buy Back Program.

The "Stop the Violence Old School Basketball Game" and it's sponsors, raised $5,000 for the Henry County Sheriff's Department Gun Buy Back Program. The check was presented to the Henry County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, April 26, by coordinators Garrett Dillard and Darrell Hairston. Sheriff Lane Perry explained how Harriston and Dillard came together to try and "make a difference on the streets" and to "eliminate people dying for senseless needs." Garrett Dillard, newly elected Principal at Bassett High School, told the board how they appreciated the support and effort of Sheriff Perry during the process of coordinating and implementing the event. Perry went on to tell the board that the Gun Buy Back Program will "try and schedule the events quickly to hopefully have an effect before the summer starts," generally when they see an increase in the violence when people start hanging out, and drinking occurs more often.

Outside the meeting, Perry said, in an exclusive interview with WYAT, that when the program is implemented, they will be giving $75 per weapon brought in, and asked for "People to bring in whatever would be a threat to young people - using them, weapons that could have an impact in our community for violence." He went on to say what a generous "effort and donation from our community" and wanted to thank the Sandy Level citizens, as well as those who participated in the ballgame. Perry said he hopes that other watch groups or communities will follow this example and make a difference in their communities as well.

Darrell Hairston also mentioned in the interview, how he was excited about what they've been able to do with the help of the community, and how the entire community came together to make the gun buy back program work.
