Drag the slider over to 29 seconds to start the video. Short slideshow makes the point that terminally ill prisoners are costing billions to imprison in California, even though some have families who would gladly take them and provide caregiving. A good example of abuse of the mentally ill which benefits no one and steals human service and education dollars. Not what the politicians have been leading everyone to believe public safety is all about. Outrageous inhumanity...none of it a solution to crime. Presented by the UNION mothers who have spent eleven years fighting to end medical neglect and abuse of the mentally ill in California. There is no place for a sick inmate or their family members to go for help. Once an inmate goes to the hospital, their family members rarely, if ever, get to visit, even when the prisoner is dying. Nora Weber has just been refused visitation to her son by Corcoran prison, as has all the families whose loved ones are permanently incapacitated or dying. This is being done in the taxpayer's name, but whom does it benefit? No audio here to keep the file size small

  • The slideshow begins at 29 seconds, you can drag the slider over to there. There is no audio to keep the file small. Look at the pictures, the two charts, it's simple. Prisons are simply punishing instead of healing the sick and costing us billions.

I do agree to some extent.

The DOC does need programming geared to the NATURE OF THE CRIME even if the facility is 10-hours from their family.

Obviously, nature of the crime would dictate when they would begin treatment as some non-murder crimes carry over 20-years.

SEX OFFENDERS should be in their own prison & go to "treatment" 6-8hr/day X 6 days/wk. SO's need treatment more than "social programs".

YEARS of intense SUPERVISION IS NEEDED upon release!

  • I agree with your point 100% (even though sarcastic).

I AM safer that offenders who re-offended (2-3 times) are locked in a HOSprison (on a civil committment).

Perhaps one change could be made & that is to have a HOS-Prison (like Atascadero/Coalinga) (minus 90% of priveledges given to "patient status") where people could go on their FIRST OFFENSE.

No college. 6-8 hr/day of "treatment". If they reoffend ONCE after 15-years of treatment *with SOLID post-release care* TOSS THE KEY AWAY!

  • What educated person do you expect to make a decision off of one chart?

Thank you for taking the time to make a nice video showing your point-of-view!

  • Do you really believe that these guys want to reform? That they can reform?

I have some land on Jupiter I want to sell you. Cheap too:)

Get a clue. Your idealistic views are far fetched and completely askew.

Crime has been happening since the beginnig of time. Nothing will ever change that. Reform can only come to those who want it...and very very few want it. Reform is a choice. You can't force a person to change...no matter how hard you try.

  • Isn't there ANYONE who cares what happens to all of these inmates in our California prisons? It's not just the sick being treated poorly.... we're making the well inmates sick, too! The crowding in "dorms" (parking garage-like places filled with bunk beds) at Level 2 is inhumane and cruel.

  • Maybe this will open the general publics eyes, even a little would be a blessing.Prisoners ARE people, and this treatment of any human being is disgusting, even the most hard headed idiots should see that!Quit backing Arnie, his lies and his "Prison State".Europeans are much more humane and civil when it comes to prison, inmate sentencing and "treatment of people",we should take heed and try to emulate their compassion.

  • The torture is a shame. I have tried everything to get my disabled son out of prison so I can take care of him. He is the one in the wheelchair, Mark Grangetto. Even under California Assembly bill 1539 the California Department of Corrections will not release any prisoner. The taxpayers are being asked to pay more taxes and we are all suffering from an inhumane system.

  • This is happening in Our California Prison Gulags~~It is terrifying to know how our tax dollars are being spent in creating gross human suffering~~"Obama look over here in California" we need an edd to torturing here in the USA~~Close Down some of these prisons & start releasing the terminally ill, sick & dying~~Demand Arnold to correct what he has helped destroy~~

  • This is so sad. If only Americans could educate themselves about what is happening inside all American prisons, especially so California their would be outrage. Yes, let's demand reform why we still can!
