We were allowed to take a view over the shoulders of the workers at our contract manufacturer who is doing the SMD production of the Freerunner Navigation Board and the GTA04. The video shows most phases of producing 10 Navigation boards (standard version, i.e. single sided).

  • The "tape" is to handle the very small components. It is paper/plastic tapes wound on reels. The tape has small bays to store the components. So it is more comparable to old fashioned movie technology :)

    The configuration (defining the movements of the robot arm) of the pick and place is done by software...

  • @rixed0 Not really. The components are fed to the pick & place machine via a type of paper tape with holes for transportation (like a celluloid movie) and other holes containing the components (sealede by a plastic tape).

  • Really cool, looking forward GTA04 and best wishes for these projects

  • So a pick&place machine is configured with perfored tape like computers of the 50ies? :)
