Susie Soho are a four-piece Irish alternative-rock band, whose members have opened for and shared the stage with artists such as Damien Rice, The Frames, Gabriella Cilmi, Mundy, David Jordan, and Damien Dempsey. Describing themselves as the kind of band youd get if Gemma Hayes and Dave Grohl had some kind of musical lovechild, their catchy, guitar-driven songs have a distinctively Irish sound.
Featuring Jason Maher (bass), Niall Campion (guitar) and Mia Fitzgerald (drums), Susie Soho was formed by singer and guitarist Tony Fitzpatrick in 2009.
Tony did things backwards. The last year was spent working by day and establishing a recording studio to produce Susie Sohos debut album by night. The resulting record, Where All The Ladders Start, was mixed by the renowned Greek electro-acoustic composer and producer Anthony P. (aLfa.P, Stereo Nova, Supermarket) and mastered by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios (Lily Allen, Coldplay, Gorillaz), all before the first band rehearsal was arranged.
Susie Soho made their live debut at Oxegen 2009, which was followed up with the release of their first single, Spinning Top (with remix by Ruairi Lynch) on October 30th 2009, and received regular regional and national airplay.
The follow up single, Little Prince, will be released in March, with debut album, Where All The Ladders Start is due for release in June, 2010.
Random Facts:
- Tony got Physics grinds from Dominic of Bellx1, back when Bellx1 and Damien Rice were still Juniper. One thing led to another and Tony ended up playing lead guitar for Damien before O became a huge international hit.
- The band name comes from the the title of the 2000 jazz album Good Morning Susie Soho by the Esbjorn Svensson Trio.
- The Ruairi Lynch remix of debut single, Spinning Top, came about after Tony and Ruairi met through the day job. There were cups of tea involved.
- As well as directing the video for debut single, Spinning Top, Niall has quite the list of media graphics credits, including background graphics for the RTEs Newsroom and Premier Soccer Saturday 2009 opening titles. Hes also worked on numerous exhibitions and short films.
