Nice review. I saw it last weekend on an IMAX screen, and WOW, the video and audio were some of the best I've ever seen/heard. A must-see film. As far as comparing it to The Dark Knight, I'm surprised to say I'm giving the edge to Watchmen because of the detail and care that went into creating this world. I'm reading the comic now, and while the pictures look good, but the film takes it to a whole other level. I can see where people find the ending bleak, but I thought is seemed rather fitting.

Good review, I haven't seen the film yet and haven't finished the graphic novel but the scene in the adverts with Rorschach using a makeshift flamethrower made from what seems to be an aerosole and lighter doesn't seem very convincing, I doubt swat in uniform would be that scared by a flame. looks cool though lol.
