THX for responding, I have the latest version and my computer which is fairly new had the same thing occur when installing the QC version off of the cd. What concerns me is that I wanted to use a "image in movie" patch that I saw demonstrated on a tutorial, but that patch could not be found in my library. This in turn made me think how would I add patches to my library. One other oddity is when opening QC I noticed that it is found in the application directory vs the subsequent graphic tools dir.

I noticed that you have a patch create button on your tool bar. Mine only will show the patch library button instead. Looked for it in the options menu, but it is not there. Any suggestions?

@stubes23 Hi there, thanks for the comment! The only thing that I can think of that may be the cause is that you are using an older or newer version of QC and Xcode. I haven't tried it since I updated to Snow Leopard a couple of weeks ago, but I can't see why you'd need the patch create button as you can just drag from the patch library itself. As I say, the button may have been have been omitted from more recent . If you do need it I'd recommend updating xcode. Hope this helps!

Great effort, but can I suggest explaining more? Quartz is conceptually quite difficult to grasp at first when you don't understand things like "what is a generator?" or "what is the "clear" patch actually doing?" and so forth. Answering some of these questions while you go through the steps would help new users to get a real grasp of the fundamentals. I've been dabble in edting compositions buy always running into walls just trying to find where various inputs are coming from!!

@djinchiki Thanks for the creative criticism, I suppose when I posted this I didn't know what they were. But looking at it now I can see what you mean. I also understand that the concept of Quartz is very hard to get a grasp on at first as it is like coding without the code. I may in the future release another video with a bit more of an explanation of the functions and expressions that were used.
Thanks for watching.

@catchmeashley No question is a stupid one my friend, just one that is easy to answer! Quartz Composer is a visual programming language for Mac OS X, and basically if you have the skills you can make anything you like, Video filters visualisations, screen savers, utilities or even games. This example is just the making of a fancy looking widget for the dashboard that serves no real purpose. Thanks for watching
