Pineapple is a fruit that originally comes from South America but is now grown in most tropical climates. It's the only fruit that contains the enzyme Bromelain which breaks down protein. That's why pineapple juice is often used as a meat tenderizer or marinade and has often been eaten after high protein meals to aid in digestion. As you would expect pineapples are an excellent source of Vitamin C but they also contain a high concentration of the B vitamins, including folate. So add pineapples to your list of 5 daily servings of fresh fruits and vegetables.
