Scandinavian countries are some of the most peaceful, prosperous and irreligious societies on the planet. The people committing the most crimes in those countries are semi-literate third world thugs who are in love with a mediocre book of a medieval warlord.

I could not agree more bananajoe. My family left Denmark in the 10th century, moved to Normandy. Left Normandy for England in the 11th century with William the Conqueror. Left England for the American Colonies in the 17th century. Moved to Ohio, USA in 1791. I am STILL here, wish I could "come home". I grow weary of the religious and political bullshit. :)

I meant that the context of his arguments were appropriate, considering the fact that he's in a church.

I stand with Htichens as well. Even though he is dead, his books, speeches, and entire body of work will leave on and continue to free people from absolute control by an imaginary supreme being.

I have heard many of Peters half thought out rants. He feels safe behind the grotesque elitist moralising edifice that is the daily mail, preaching to the psychologically infirm and bigoted, but this debate with his brother conclusively showed how his arguments can be demolished easily with facts and reason.I would argue that you are not an atheist if you believe that religion based arguments are valid, and Peters religious arguments were truly annihilated in this case.

Yes Peter is very passionate but Im afraid not in the same way Christopher was.Christophers passion was for uncovering and articulating the truth as he saw it,Peters passion is for making arguments to support his very wooly elitist thinking and to defend his large collection of irrational prejudices. There is no rational integrity to Peters thinking, that is why he blusters or attempts to ignore questions that he has not the reason or wit to answer. He was so conclusively outclassed by his brother.

According to you he lived there 30 years ago, yet in the video he says of Dawkins et al "they live in Oxford, not far from where I live". Notice the present tense in the statement.
You also haven't provided any evidence to support Peter's suggestion that in the UK we're killing each other at the drop of a hat, which is the point of my comment entirely; Peter's argument is simply a massive exaggeration of a slight truth.
I think you'll find your comment is more useless than my own.

I disagree. Peter is a very passionate, just like his late brother, and the fact that you said his arguments were derived from a "Half-baked religious far right-wing moralizing drivel" only shows that you didn't pay attention to this debate whatsoever.
This is in a church, and has a slightly biased crowd. If only to appeal to the better and interest of the crowd, why can't Peter use religion-based arguments? I may be an Atheist, but I'm not going to tell people to not argue appropriately.

Jimi Hendrix,Jim Morrison,Stevie Ray Vaughan,Bob Marley,Christopher Hitchens, they all died way too young. Peter Hitchens ? just what the fuck is he talking about?,he dosent even really seem to know himself blustering and bullshitting his way through his half baked religious far right wing moralising drivel. No wonder he writes for the daily mail, talk about the blind leading the blind.
