I'll hazard to say that the REC films are remakes of the Demons films without the whimsy and surreal atmosphere.
Have to come back to this review and give my thoughts, pressed for time right now, glad you took on this film though, it's an enduring classic

I remember arguing with a friend who worked at a theatre showing Demons because the theatre banned anyone under 18 from seeing it, and my argument was, "Who was the theatre make that decision if a parent wanted to take his kid to see it." Also, I think read somewhere that part of the problem with Demons is that Bava, Argento, and a third "big name" collaborator (Michelle Soavi?) weren't on the same page with what they wanted the movie to be.

@VonWenk I think I've read that as well. Probably was Soavi, as I believe he was an assistant director or something like that.
