@MsLacey9, It must have been absolutely terrifying for you and your friends. I was 11 when that flood happened. Have you seen the movie "The Flood who will save our children" which chronicles the ordeal you and your fellow campers endured.

I was the news director at KERV-AM in Kerrville. We were the first news station on the scene. We f'ed reports to stations world wide for the first few hours of this tragedy because the San Antonio stations could not get to Comfort because of the severe weather. It's a day I will never forget.

I still live in this county where this happened and there is one boy named John Bankston who was part of the bus group started saving lives. One after another, John retrieved them from their precarious, disappearing perches. Reports mention John carrying one camper on his back for 30 full minutes before getting him to safety—a half hour for just that one camper.
Somewhere out there in the water, John disappeared. To this day his remains have never been found.

more than teenage girls died in this flood...my older brother Micheal was one of the victims. The plaque on the riverbank lists all the kids who died.

This sad story was also made into a movie Flood who save our Children and the event where Mike and Dave try to save the girl is depicted in the movie too. I didn't learn about this event until I started watching Rescue 911 and at the time this happen I was 3years old. I seen the footage in the Rescue 911 segement but not the footage of Dave putting his camera down but that event was also seen in the movie too.
