The opening to an excellent 1992 Japanese film. A grand old Japanese hotel wants a prestigious contract as the site of a summit meeting of important foreign officials. Unfortunately, this hotel is quite popular with the Yakuza, and is a favourite target of theirs for extortion. They employ a variety of schemes to con the establishment out of 'hush-money.' The hotel needs to rid itself of these gangsters, and finally begins to fight back by hiring Mahiru Inoue, a lawyer who is an expert at dealing with these criminals on their own terms. This film by Juzo Itami combines action with farce, as an all-out war ensues. (Imdb)

  • I read that the director of this movie was killed by the yakuza, is it true!

  • The Yakuza attacked him in anger over this film, but they didn't kill him. He committed suicide years later.

    This is from Wikipedia (so whether it's true or not);

    He purportedly committed suicide on December 20, 1997 in Tokyo, by leaping from the roof of the building where his office was located, after a sex scandal he was allegedly involved in was picked up by the press. The suicide letter he reportedly left behind denied any involvement in such an affair. (continued)

  • (continued) Many consider his death suspicious; some believe it had something to do with a cult religion he was dealing with, or, as another possible revenge attack by the Yakuza. At the time, the police treated it as a possible homicide. His surviving family has remained silent on the circumstances surrounding his death.

  • MIYAMOTO’ NOBUKO is Great actor!

    She can Act in between Teenage to old lady.

    Who can another?

  • Jake Adelstein claims that one of his Yakuza contacts had flat out told him that Juzo Itami was pushed off that building by Goto-gumi thugs, that being exactly the sort of thing the Goto-gumi was known for. If it's true, it probably had to do with his next film, which was about Yakuza ties to Sokka-gakkai. In any case I think it's safe to say that a LOT of people, within Japan and out, think Juzo Itami was killed.

  • @Rackets1 I heard when the director was attacked they cut him up. I just watched a short doc on youtube about it, think it was under national geographic Yakuza... If you still care after 2 years

  • @GalaxinaFan

    Could you please send me the link to the Wiki?

  • You might not believe me, but this story is actually based off my grandfather, Kenro Miyazaki. The lady, or the lawyer, was actually a man. :-P

  • Where Da fuck can i watch this movie? It looks really gd.

  • Oh sorry. Mr. GalaxinaFan explained first.

    If you love Itami-movie you can watch "TAMPOPO" on the You-tube.

  • No, The director(Juzo Itami:伊丹十三) was not killed by yakuza. He was injured by the knife of Yakuza but he was saved.

    But Unfortunately he had committed a suicide several years later.
