Nice vertical shooter by Capcom, ported to the Saturn and PS1 by Psikyo, with some adult references and material. Also known as Mobile Light Force in the US. The game spawned a number of sequels including Gunbird 2, Shikigami No Shiro 1,2 and 3. Some of the characters also appear in other Psikyo games.

  • I played the world version rom of this on MAME and I very much laughed my ass off. Tetsu is still gay, and his manly gay love brings peace to the entire universe. If that is not the best ending to a shmup, it's one of the best. Eat your heart out Radiant Silvergun! : D

I only wish the Saturn version had that english translation, but I think Gunbird is in such a way that even if you don't understand exactly what they're saying, you pretty much know what they are talking about, hah.

    nice review!

  • @emperorIng360 hah what we miss without translations...I just thought Tetsu was an eccentric until I saw some game info!

  • Never knew Ash was seriously fucked up, hehe! Although realising these references now it doesn't suprise me mate, in this crazy world of Japanese gaming, and guess it's why i love it so much. How they can employ such bizarre story lines into greatly entertaining shmups like these. Another great review Matt, you seem to have an real ability entertaining an audience. Always thought "GB" was a decent port and feel the Saturn's the best version imo! Keep rockin' dude... lovin' it! :D

  • @MENDEZ1628 Dude your comments always brighten up my day, thank you! We can only enjoy the bizarre characters and dialogue in these games, and when I can find a translation I will laughing my haircut off.! You da man, thanks again bro.

  • All I know is Mobile Light Force on the Playstation is a pretty poor conversion. Whatever the storylines, looks good on the Saturn.

  • @ash81b4u it's weird that the PS1/2 versions can feel and play really flat, dunno why that is but I suspect it's something to do with their graphics engine being a bit geared towards 3D and textures. No idea.

  • HOO yeah Gunbird! Love this game. Tetsu is my kind of character. I love me some 14 year old ass!

Err...but that's not the point. Good review man. I just watched one vid but I kept watching another and another. You funny man! I think I'll subscribe.

  • @futurematt5 I know what you mean about music and I can honestly say that Shmups have the best game music. I especially like the music from Last Resort on the NeoGeo but ikaruga has some very very good music too with levle four being the favourite for me- it has a very grand sound overall I feel.

  • @MintythecatIsABeast cheers Minty! OK I take your point, the tunes on some levels are pretty cool. I'm very fussy when it comes to music though.

  • "the tunes are a bit naff" - bloody hell Matt the first level and the into screen music has not left my head for something like 7 years!!!!!! Each to his own :D

    Thanks for the review!

  • @alexgameroom A top f5 moment indeed, well that's put a smile on my face. Which I need as I just removed a moustache from my face earlier (check my FB update). Never good when, as Cyanide reported below, you are 2P'ing this on the arcade and your character says wants to put his donger inside your mate's character's small intestine. Hooray for the gay community. I will maintain an amnesty from now on! Great comment mate, creased us up.
