UPDATE, November 3, 2008, 9:10 p.m.: Obama won! So this First-In-The-Nation election was right!
Listen to the cheers in the room as Obama is announced the winner, a preview to Grant Park where over 200,000 people showed up to cheer and listen to Obama's acceptance speech. Make sure to see my videos of that event.
Note the time I posted this, November 3 on the west coast.
So the physical voting and counting where Obama would win the Presidency took place at 9:00 P.M. November 3, not November 4. Surreal. That's the way of the Net and YouTube.
===============
IMHO this is the most fantastic video on YouTube. [OK, that's a bit much.] But I can't stop watching it. It is so cool.
David Shuster on MSNBC's Hardball announces the play by play of voting in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. Emily Heil of Roll Call, Heard on the Hill also provides insightful commentary.
In what has been since 1960 a traditional win for Republicans in this small resort town, in 2008 Obama wins over McCain!
Dixville Notch is FIRST in the nation of live voting where people cast their ballots at midnight November 4 and election officials count the votes minutes later.
Precursor of things to come? As Sarah Palin might say, you betcha.
McCain 6 votes, Ralph Nader 0, Barack Obama 15.
Sidenote: Here is how The Balsams Resort describes the voting process:
"In 1952, New Hampshire first provided its residents with the opportunity to vote in Presidential primaries. In these early elections, many small towns around the state competed to get their votes in first. But ever since Dixville Notch was granted the privilege of being a voting community in 1960, it has continuously maintained the honor of being First in the Nation to report its results of the Presidential election.
In order to maintain this honorary status, every single registered voter in Dixville Notch must turn out and vote. Just before midnight the day before the election, these voters come to The BALSAMS and take a head count to ensure everyone is present. When the polls officially open at the strike of midnight, each voter heads to a booth in the Ballot Room and casts his or her vote. The entire process takes about a minute."

Take a look at The Balsams' website. Looks like a nice place to stay. Too bad I don't make it to the east coast too often. :(

This is a thing of absolute beauty, good old democracy in action.
Does not matter who wins, just the sight of people putting their ballots in the box, the official in his finest bow tie and I don't see any brown shirt thugs intimidating the voters or attempting to influence the outcome.
Fantastic.
