Tito the Builder on John McCain and Barack Obama
"America's Newsroom" 10:40am
Interview

TRANSCRIPT:
MEGYN KELLY: You are not happy with the attacks on Joe the Plumber. Tell us why.

TITO MUNOZ: The media, the way that they attacked Joe the Plumber, I think is an attack on all Americans. Because, when the media intimidates a person for asking a question, they are attacking the first amendment of the constitution. Meaning that anybody cannot ask a question anymore because the scrutiny, and its going to be like a depression against you. And I think thats wrong, thats not what America is all about. You should have freedom of speech, the question was legal. You should not censor the question, you should not feel the consequences because it is not right. Thats not right.

KELLY: Tito, I know that your story is impressive. You started as a janitor, now you on your own construction company. You have four employees, so it is a small company and you work on the main sewer lines, working on grading for foundations. Are you in the category of business that Barack Obama says would be helped most by his plan, meaning that nets under $250,000 a year.

MUNOZ: The question is not about what is my income at this moment. I look at every political assumption from the perspective of everybody. I could go back to being a janitor and this is how I look at it. Im a janitor and what the government is going to do to me is give me a handout, give me a bunch of crumbs. They say, oh poor Tito, ok, you stay down there, you dont know anything, youre not good, you dont have a dream, just stay down there, well throw you some crumbs. No, I want to have an opportunity. Thank god I work in the company with a boss that gave me an opportunity for a janitor to go to the warehouse and the then become a truck driver, and then become a supervisor. My dreams kept growing, and growing, and growing. So I believe this country is about opportunity, and not government handouts.

KELLY: Obviously, you're supporting John McCain. That is what you are doing at these rallies. In a nutshell, what was it that did it for you? Why are you such a fierce advocate now for McCain?

MUNOZ: I believe in the American people. The American people, they're very smart. I know that when they go to the polls, they're going to look to these two candidates. They will say this is a candidate here with a philosophy that is according to the constitution and principles of this nation. And we have a candidate here whose principles might be, according to Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. You have a candidate, you ask a question and he will answer it to you. You have a candidate where you ask a question, and the mainstream media attacks you and destroys you. You have a candidate that believes in you. Then you have a candidate here that wants you to believe in you. For me, that is a no-brainer. For me, the candidate is John McCain. Theres no other question there.

KELLY: How are you enjoying your super stardom as a result of these appearances?

MUNOZ: Well, I am kind of scared of these interviews. It is kind of scary. I am not used to this stuff. Im always nervous. I am just waiting to see what the media is going to do to me. Maybe they're going to bring out Bill Richardson calling me a racist.

KELLY: nobody better do anything to you, or they will have to answer to me.

  • lmao at how he winks when he talks.Like he's going wink wink I'm full of shit

  • These cynical attempts by the GOP to pluck rubes out of obscurity and create overnight celebrities out of nonentities like Palin, Joe the Plumber, and Tito the Builder ranks as one of the worst campaign strategies I've ever seen. Watching this now after the election, I am so enormously thankful that the ignorance of the Republican Party became visible for everyone to see. As Barack said, "It's like they think you're stupid." The only driving intellligence of the GOP was in the manipulation.

  • does this guy remind u guys of the security guard from jimmy kimmel?

  • why is he offended about joe?? i get what joe is doing hes trying to make a buck on his 15 minutes of fame. but the attacks on joe are earned he has became a tool and actually called obama is the death to israel

  • yeah, joe the turdmeister, and now gomez the builder, are supposed to be able to run their hole on every show from Today Show to Neil Cavuto, stumping for McCain and talking out of their ass and nobody is supposed to look into them? fuck that. Joe was talking about foriegn affairs last week. LMFAO. This dick with ears talking world affairs. HAHAHAHAHAHA

The only time he was out of Ohio was when the police chased his rusty pick-up across state lines after he ran out of Dennys without paying.

  • veejoman: You said: "Joe the plunger wasn't harassed by the government elite"

nice try - it wasn't just the media - Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, for one.

    "That's what journalists do"

Only when it's perceived as a threat to BO. Don't see Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright's taxes, licenses splashed front page - just excuses for their sorry &*sses. And MSM didn't even make a peep about Rezko's conviction.

  • bpat108, you're missing my point. Joe the plunger wasn't harassed by the government elite, he was harassed by reporters, investigating him. That's what journalists do. Joe the plunger was asking about taxes, so the media checked up on his records. If you think that he would have been as scrutinized if McFail hadn't said his name so much in the 3rd debate then you are a fool. As far as the constitution and philosophy of capitalism, Obama will not hurt that. $250k is a lot for a small biz to make.

  • veejoman: Tito isn't concerned about Obama's changing "tax" plan. Listen to what he says - it's about the philosophy of capitalism and our constitution- the opportunity to start your own business and not be punished for it's success, to speak and not be harassed by the govt. elite. He probably knows a little about socialism firsthand. I think it's time to admit that this election has 2 real people (R) running against 2 stiff-shirt, political machine, elite phonies (D).

  • Dems keep throwing money at our failed education system - that is, was and will be the Democrat's education solution.

And I'm a little confused - so is McCain tossing money or crumbs at the healthcare issues?

  • English? I make more than Joe the builder or plumber by a factor of 4. I'm voting for Obama.

Your OERO BAMA comment is very disrespectful, US Senator, Father & Husband. Obama graduate Harvard magna cum laude, Law Review President and a Constitutional Law professor. I don't expect people w/ low education & low information understand intellect.

    Joe's? I don't give a fuck what they think.

I want the MOST IQ in the white house. No bottom of his class Maverick and folksy Journalism major.
