The libIrcom library provides a software implementation to achieve local communications at a rate of 30B/s max and a distance of up to 25cm. Additionally, the location of a robot transmitting a message can be estimated by the receiver. In effect, this is a range and bearing communication system.

  • This song reminds me of a soft core movie...

  • @CognitiveNetwork I am sure softcore movies can have good music too... Jokes set aside, the music is a cello suite from from J.S. Bach (BWV.1007).

  • Wouldn't there be a whole lot of mechanical and physical variables at play here too? Wheels jamming, sensors sending at higher rates... that sort of thing?

  • Hi, I am not sure what you mean by "at play". Wheels are working fine, and sensors have a very accurate rate. Robots oscillate slightly because the information communicated is not perfect : orientations change constantly. An interesting aspect of this task is that there are only 8 sensors around the robots, but you can see that they align with a better accuracy than 45 degrees.

  • @AlexandreCampo Well, thank you for the intel.

  • alex, I wonder how each robot knows their orientation? do they know their initial orientation? Thanks

  • very cool

  • a good demo for robot inter-communication!
