  • Not just a fine musician, but a fine man, ahead of the arc of history. I doubt that many people know today, on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, that Van Ronk, a hetrerosexual, took part in the famous riot that launched the modern gay rights movement. Charged with "harrassment" of one of the cops busting in to the Stonewall bar, Van Ronk was arrested, handcuffed, taken into the Stonewall, and later taken away in a patrol wagon. Rest in Peace, Dave.

  • Marvelous song

  • Who do I love? You Dave!

  • I watched Dave live in Massachusetts in the 80s. Walked into the club as he sang this song. Just the song I hoped he'd play. Our eyes locked.

He was alone at the bar during break, so I plopped down next to him. I introduced myself and we discussed Bob Dylan, and especially Taj Mahal ("he's brilliant") and Joni Mitchell ("best female singer-songwriter, of her generation"). I argued for Laura Nyro, but he didn't agree and I couldn't convince him. I told Dave he was cited on every other page of a
