I have a Canon ZR800, miniDV format (that's required for us at school). For the Muckdog videos, theBatavian let me use one of their Macs that has IMovie to edit. I don't know of any free editors; all my editing I've done on Macs, and I primarily use FinalCutPro here at school; FinalCut is pricey and both it and IMovie are just compatable to Macs...hope that helps! I really don't know too much.
