A conversation about money, one of Gil's favorite 2 topics...

This was the last burst of activity at the end of Gil's 20 year tenure in the U.S. before he escaped at the last minute back to his homeland of Israel. This footage was shot on Spring break in '99 in Ft. Myers beach Florida as he was hustling up some $$$ by drawing frat boys and gals on the street at night and on the beach by day.

After leaving his beloved Boulder, CO. Gil tried making a go of it in Florida, the state with the most caricaturists in the US.
After his finances ground to a halt, he left for the city of Haifa on the Mediterranean sea where he still resides and draws, when not dodging scud missles and bombs from Lebanon.

Many still say he is (was)a character in a Monty Python skit, but if you ever met him, you'd be astonished how FAST one human could talk.

Come back, Gilad! All is forgiven. We need you in the NCN!

Shalom...

  • I used to cut mattes for Gil. Would cut one to two thousand of them at a pop. . . When I went to Israel, I visited Gil's family on Kibbutz Kabri. Had a great time. Gil is one of the craziest SOBs I have ever met, but you gotta love him!

  • Thats a really nice mohair sweater Gil is sporting...

  • Perhaps you should get out more;

    This planet is populated with an enormous variety of homo sapiens. Granted, this bloke is quite eccentric, but you do share the globe with infinite types of humaniods. Get used to it.

  • WTF!!!! is this thing a human!! omg!! it scared the crap out of me!!! he really looks like he's returned from some where and not anywhere from earth!!!

  • Wow. I know Gil. I was a street vendor in Boulder in the 80's, I talked to him a lot, looks like he hasn't changed. Thanks for posting, brought back some fun memories.

    FWIW: He casually mentioned one day his grandfather was Jascha Heifetz (violinist). Actually, to this day, I still believe him.

  • It's fun to see a real live character from your book.

    ( Gil The Mentor) I'm finally checking out your vids.

    Dave

  • Yes I remember the days you would find people riding their motorbikes with a milk carton on the back to carry stuff and they were not un-cool. So what year is this?

    Cheers

    Mike N.
