Yes, well, until the 'slave class' in China has had enough. (The disparity of income there now is 1000 to 1. It is too unfair to maintain.) There will be an uprising in China, an economic upheaval, and then China will need to call in the foreign debts. Will the US be able to pay up then? Who knows.
They will trust me. In indirect ways and direct ways. I wouldn't worry about China they will get old before they get rich and they have a much bigger intrest in the USA staying prosperous than the USA does the other way around.
I was thinking more along the lines of all out war between the two fractions and complete chaos and bloodshed for control of Iraq. Iraq is making 600M+ everyday on oil revenues. Why can't they pay for the war? We have borrowed money from China (cont. to do so) to finanace this war. We are so broke that China paid for our stimulous tax returns. Soon, we will be "USA of China!"
True we are paying some former malitia men. We can't expect them to act as policemen or millita men for free to help in the security. The plan as I understand it from Michale Yon is that these new paid militias are being integrated into the Iraqi security force under a federal command.
There are less being killed in Iraq since the surge, yes, but we've been paying 70,000 Sunnis to kill these different branches of enemies. Now they're back in Afghanistan & much stronger. Looking ahead, what happens when we stop payment & pullout? What happens between the Iran Shi'ites & the Iraqi Sunnis?
This is true but look at the context this is after the Anbar awaking when virtually all funding from Suni groups dried up. Most of the funding now may indeed be from Iran hoping to stir the pot as a result of other sources being depleted. Regardless Al Qaeda is doing very little in iraq with this funiding seeing how they are anhililated.
Ahmad Salah al-Din stated that al-Qaeda in Iraq has received most of its funding, weapons, and training not from fellow Sunnis but from the Shi'ites of Iran. Iran wants to rule & change their beliefs and ideas, to alter the demography of the Sunni regions, particularly Baghdad.
EasyE, the way I understand they are a nuisance and always will be. However to get to the core of the problem it's Iran who is enabling radical groups such as Al-Qaeda, the insurgents, etc. both financially and militarily. It just goes from bad to worse doesn't it?

I am not sure how Iran enables Al-Qaeada today. Their influence is diminishing. I think the the corner has been turned in Iraq right now.
