Lowdown, greasy, wild, nasty, wicked.

Get the tribute CD : "Jimi Hendrix Flying in a Blue Dream". Walter Trout does 'Hey Joe' on there. It is by far the best song on a awesome CD; which is, by the way, loaded with talent. A became a fan after hearing it.

Whenever you hear a guitar have that somewhat bobwire scratchy sound, it is because the guitar has the lightest of the lightest of guage strings on it. Sometimes the tuning bridge keys need to be tightened up a bit too. I have always noticed that even though he has some good runs, his sound seems to have that scratchy sound. I wish he would use a heavier guage string on his guitar.

it's volume swells. not that hard. the trick is to downstroke only, while you're doing it. can't make it work on alternate picking.
just practice downstrokes with turning the volume knob at the same time. if you just can't get it, get a volume pedal. same thing
he certainly is!!
