Wow. I enjoyed a level from Marble37/Beack. This is... Odd.

I'm honestly shocked on how fun this was. I expected, when I downloaded the level, to not enjoy it at all. To just come across another level saying "USE TEH SUPPR JUM TO GET HIER!11 AN FINNISH! BEET TEH UEW TEE!!"

Honestly all of the help texts and the level description pretty much summed that up, but the gameplay of the level begged to differ. With the intro having a simple sand wall and super jump, my first impression was "oh great... another time waster." I played through the rest of the level (with my broken textures, yes) and found it didn't suck as much as I expected. What a fun super jump challenge! Really, it's the first time I saw something like that in a custom level. Very creative. I soon figured that I could skip the first challenge with a high speed super jump and that boring sand wall I was talking about. Soon enough, that sand wall was my ticket to seconds of enjoyment and that spark that the level might be fun to speedrun. Sure enough, the rest of the level was just as enjoyable. The little stairway of platforms with the green gems was fun, too. The height difference of the platforms was a bit hard to cooperate with, but I managed a good way through them. After that, I came across yet another of the same super jump challenge. This time there was no going around it - or I didn't think so at the time. I came up with a fun little route through the part, taking the bottom superjump, boosting myself up to the second batch, and using all the air movement that the marble had in it to use the second super jump to get myself high enough to grab the next super jump, and use it instantly. Then I would make my way over to the final gem, grab that, and use the bounce I had left from the high superjump to bounce over the sand wall, and directly into the finish. This route would normally get me a good 21-23 seconds. I really felt like there was plenty of room to improve, so I tried this route. Just a head on wall smash with a superjump. Figured a decent idea at the time, right?

Turns out it worked perfectly. With the right timing, I launched myself high enough to clear the gap, nail the gem, and have more then enough spin at the end to make it up the sand wall. After a few runs, I managed to get this time. I'm sure with a few tweaks, sub-18 or even sub-17 is possible.

----------------

I felt this run, with the messed up textures, looked a bit ugly and plain... and needed that extra little something to really finish it up. I first came up with this fun little idea - Have the first run, full speed with the music I currently have on it, then have a half-speed version, with relaxing music and more editing. I ended up calling the small project "Tranquility", and I may release it sometime soon on a side channel or something.

I ended up combining the idea though - with this run. The huge drop in the song I picked for the run really gave me inspiration, and I felt that I found the little push that the video seemed to be lacking. I went straight into editing, and came up with this little thing.

The song is "Airwalker - Sunrise" for anyone who wants it.

I found it a bit odd... I was listening to "Clubbed to death" from the matrix soundtrack while doing this run... Yet it felt better with "Sunrise" when I was editing it. Normally I just put whatever I was listening to while doing the run on the video, because it seemed to naturally fit better.

Oh, and I noticed how my little editing on it pretty much cut out the view of the gems. Here's the full .rec of the run if you'd like to watch it without editing.

Enjoy!

Edit: As expected, I landed a 17.2x run. Pretty easy too.
