My thoughts regarding an article in the tabloid press regarding wind turbines. When we fought the last war, the countryside played host to all manner of airfields, radar towers, barrage balloons, hangers, etc, etc, etc, etc, which were removed as they were no longer required. Alas we are now facing threats to our way of life that are many times greater then any foreign enemy, mainly the fact that we are running out of resources to sustain us and our modern way of life. We cannot just burn every ounce of fuel we posses and chuck all the byproducts in to the sky. I wish to call on the good people of the UK to once again lend the countryside to the defense of everything we hold dear - including the very countryside itself, from the very real risk of climate change, caused by the pumping of billions of tons of emissions into the eggshell thin layer of atmosphere over our beautiful world - our place of life that sustains us and every living thing, vegetable, animal, or human. As a developed nation, we need to set an example to the rest of humanity, so that as the developing nations rush to become developed nations in a sustainable way. Our greatest source of limitless free energy in the UK is not limited supplies of uranium or fossil fuel, it is the wind, and as such, our good example to the world will be to take advantage of the one sustainable resource we have more of then any other nation in Europe, and not get distracted by unfounded fears of things like 'Wind Turbine Syndrome'. To this end, wind turbines, should be regarded as the protecting angels of the countryside, not an intruding enemy.

  • @metamech Then they get recycled. Spain gets more of its energy from wind then any other form of generation - google 'spain wind generation' : )

  • You do realize that we have to dig rare earth metals out of the ground and those earth metals have a lifespan just like everything else, right?

Also, 2 tons of rare earth metal is required for each one and we haven't even seen enough turbines to supply the world with 1% energy (intermittent) but we are already talking about limited supplies.

Back to the drawing board. :X
