Mayor Outlaws All Police Chases to Save Money on Insurance

The mayor of Wellford, South Carolina recently issued an order barring police from pursuing criminals on foot. "There are to be no more foot chases when a suspect runs. I do not want anyone chasing any suspects whatsoever," read the two-sentence memo.

The mayor of 14 years said she issued the order after a city officer suffered a foot injury while chasing a "guy who had some crack on him" and had to be out of work for several days on workers' compensation pay. Noting the suspect wasn't stealing or breaking into a home at the time, she said she didn't consider the drug possession a crime, and said the town of 2,100 couldn't afford the increased insurance costs. Though the ban applied only to foot chases, she said officers also totaled two town-issued cars in a month.

In other news, the city of Wellford, SC has been looted and burned to the ground by criminals.

i like her. and i am willing to bet they did not play the entire video interview. that news fool did just as she said...."got your story (at the expense) on a woman in welford". creative editing can answer any question in any order. no recourse because she actually said those things on camera. just not in that order. just try and sue them for libel. that won't fly cause politicians are scared of the press like most folk. no reelected if the news comes poking around with cameras in your face.

For someone who doesn't even know the difference between libel and slander, you claim to be claim to be pretty insightful. Libel is lying in print whereas slander is spoken. The video could not be edited out of order b/c both parties are visible on camera during the question and answer. If a TV journalist did that, he would lose his job. The memo itself is only two sentences long and available online to read. Who do you think you're fooling with your ridiculous accusations?
