Almost everyone will deal with the possibility of putting a loved one in a nursing home. I have worked in the nursing home business for 44 years and I have seen the pain and suffering nursing home patients and their families deal with everyday. Nobody plans to live in a nursing home, but an accident or a health crisis can cause a nursing home admission. If you are 40 or older I urge you to make a physical retirement plan for yourself and your loved ones, so you will never have to live in a nursing home. • Jpeg1965 Why would you make such a comment when people are suffering in Nursing Homes needlessly and you have never read the book. The comprehensive information offered can save anyone from the horrors of a Nursing home.

  • I guess if the families would step up and take care of their elderly than nursing homes would have have to. I have worked nursing homes for 21 of my 36 years and have provided support to hundreds of residents that they would never receive at home...hhhhmmm Is that so bad???

  • When it's come to a point when there is MEDICAL care that family cannot provide, it is not wrong to move someone into a nursing home. Just don't put them in there and leave them lonely be never visiting them.

  • You know...all the nursing home acts and pretty posters declaring 'we love our seniors' and proclamations of 'we respect the seniors yada yada yada' is mostly a smoke screen. It's bullcrap. The only people who really really care about these folks is the hands on caregivers. From administration right on down to the registered nurses...it's all about the money. Even the government run facilities. It is warehousing. Such a shame.

  • I've worked as a caregiver in a nursing home for many many years. It's hard work, both physically and mentally. You are rushed through out your whole shift. I am not a nurse, I am the hands-on caregiver, the one person these folks come to know best, to depend upon most. I look into the eyes of every single one of our seniors and see a mom/dad/grandparent. I also see where once a child lived, played, laughed and loved. I really do give a damn about them, and try very hard to do right by them.

  • As a 60 something with NO children, I look forward to leaving the responsibility of my home, I cannot care for it well now! ASSISTED living is a perfect solution for the elderly and they can make new friends. The SCAREY part is CHANGE and we ALL are afraid of change. Seniors LOSE their independence because of age & disability, NOT because they go to a nursing home! Seniors lose their independence because THEIR OWN CHILDREN do not sacrifice to visit & oversee the parents care. This video is crap.

  • @Soralella71 God bless you!

  • Everyday my heart breaks as I visit my 88 year old mother in the nursing home. For years my sister, brothers, and I tried to take care of her at home but it became impossible. Though I wanted mom to continue to live in her home I was outnumbered by family members and she was admitted permanently in a nursing facility. Only I am there almost six to eight hours of every single day so I can make sure of her care. It is an absolute nightmare and I feel so sorry for the other "prisoners" (residents).

  • Nice concept if the average family did'nt need two incomes to survive. There was a time when you could keep them home, but unfortunately the pace of life is too fast it's not an option for most anymore. Thats the hard cold reality. My grandfather took care of my invalid grand mother for 25 years but he became an alcoholic in the process then we had two people to worry about that and the fact that my father is an only child. Now what ?

  • @NoNursingHome - do you know that a good size percentage of peope who work in these homes have criminal records? They have no compassion and do not care if a patient dies 5 minutes after admission -- Wake up! if you care at all about somebody ,you keep them home, around familiar surroundings and loving and caring faces!

  • @TheAnonymousAspie asshole - they are not suffering as long as they can open their eyes and eat- Nobody wants to die asshole- a baby does what you are describing and they are happy to be alive! With the elderly, the family has decades of memories with that person - You must be a young stupid heartless asshole , who doesn't think they'll get old- You will, and you will get sick; maybe with alzheimers- I hope your family has more compassion-you'll find out one day - asshole-

  • I will say this... I work for a nursing home and I have horror stories I could share... I understand this... But there is some times things that as people age they need the help... And whose to say that home nursing prevents that I have seen it happen at home more often then a facility...

  • This is so incorrect. I just got a new resident in our facility and her husband didn't want to put her into a nursing home so he tried to do it alone which has made her in a very poor condition. She had bed sores all over her body and she is now put on hospice. This could have been prevented with the help of nurses and nurse aids inside a nursing home! Her condition makes me so sad. She cries when we have to roll her to change her. She is over 300 lbs. I have respect for everyone there and love!
