SALTBURN STEAM 2007-Part 2

11th August I paid what has become my annual visit to the fifteen inch gauge railway at Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

This year the visiting locos were: -
Bassett-Lowke class 30 Synolda built 1912
Bassett-Lowke only s/o Blacolvesley built 1909
Cannon 4-4-2 Sutton Belle built 1933

Also there was Neil Clayton of the Ripon Light Railway with his unique Channel Tunnel (1880) inspection coach, regauged from 4oo mm to 15 inch.

This time we see the trains in wide-screen, with arrivals and departures at Cat Nab station and at Forest Halt at the end of the line.

  • Liked the video and would give my eye teeth to see Blacolvesley. Being a Northamptonian anything Basset Lowke is my thing. Blacolvesley ran on the Blakesley Hall Railway and was meant to deal with unexpected guests when the steam loco's were not in steam. Picture on bedroom wall. Bob P.

  • @bobperrin It took me a long time to manage to film it in action. Worth the wait. Alex

  • @mazofi Lame it may be - to you. But we should not mock the afflicted. S/O locos are in a genre of their own, with a lot of fans who also appreciate steam. There is more to being an enthusiast than meets the eye.

  • yeah i think thats what they said when i called them,,,,sad to miss it,,,'

  • of course, those with steam are awesome, but the one with diesel engine is lame. The way it accelerates and brakes makes it even worse.

  • @terryyouth that was probably the postcode of the Secretary of the 'Friends'.

  • @mazofi - the point is some of them are Historic locos.

  • I agree. Steam loco without steam and with diesel noise is lamest thing I have ever seen No matter how much easier it is to operate.

  • my grandad used to say it was a sin to see diesels disguised as steam engines lol

  • i wanted to come here, was in redcar last week, but postcode on site bought me to a house in redcar using satnav..contacted them later and they say that it is postal address ????. took directions but could not locate this place,,was getting dark and rainy so returned home 160miles away :(
