Hi, I need some help. I can not decide they are real gold flakes, or mica or something else. Very small and thin flakes and i don't know how to separate them from dirt. Thanks for any help!

  • Hi, thanks for the comments, the thing is some pieces are bending, some of them are come a very thin part. I can not melt it because the torch blow them away. So it could be mica and gold. Can I separate just the mica (if it is)somehow?

Anyway I will try to use the jetdry. Could You tell me why do You think is mica? Thanks, Z.

  • Dude just suck it up in your bottle next time ha you threw away a ton of gold dude

  • I find it funny that the folks saying it isn't gold want to know where you found it. My husband recently found something very similar to yours in about 2 feet of ground near a creek. There is a bunch of it but we haven't tried to seperate it yet or test it. Good luck.

  • no

  • @erdokbabi Unfortunately, the Majority of material in your pan is Mica. Shading your pan, is the best way to tell. On the Video i noticed your pan movements, out of direct light your material lost its luster. Gold will not fade out. Mica will get your heart pumping, but it can be ruled out quickly. Shade your pan. Once you get a piece of real Gold in your pan, even dust, you will never forget what it looks like after that. Major difference.

  • @rooshooter1977 Gold does float my friend. Not all Gold is pure and yes, even Gold Dust can be mixed with other Metals or Minerals, that will cause them to float.

  • Pyrite will make your anxiety shoot thru the roof. Best way to tell if its Gold, is to shade your pan. If the color is still yellow and shiny its Gold, if it magically disappears its Pyrite or Mica. Gold doesnt lose its luster even in darkness. Pyrite, Mica and any other shiny objects will immediately stop shining under shade. Also, put a drop (Just a drop) of dishwashing liquid in your pan, the Gold Dust will drop. Anything left floating after that is not Gold.

  • I have recently started panning for gold. I know this kinda sounds stupid but I was told that if you have small amounts of gold in your pan, small flakes that when you move the water to it, it can float sometimes because of water tension. I had this happen with small amounts that I have found. I even had a small garnet float with a small flake of gold attached to it. The advice I got was to touch your finger to the top of the dishwashing soap and rub bottom of pan with it. didnt seem to work.

  • dude you just washed a shit ton of gold away you are an ass

  • you can separate gold easly its probily pirite

  • Hi, I was just reading the post and I was wondering if you found out if it's gold or not? I am running into the same thing and don't listen to people who say gold doesn't float...IT Does and can. Gold is heavy but a little gold flake is lighter then a little rock. Let me know what you found out. Thanks
