Boris Khaikin conducting the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra and Chorus
Countess played by Valentina Levko
Recorded 1967
Please forgive the pops, this was transcribed from LP to MP3 by me.
I believe it is the only capturing of this fantastic performance on the internet.
I like this version of Pikovaya Dama mostly for Arkhipova's superior rendering of
Polina/Milovzor. Levko, however, is far better on the 1974 Ermler version. Thanx so much for posting this. Any chance of posting
Arkhipova doing Polina's song (Podrugi miliye...)from Act I Scene 2? It gives me chills!

The best part of this recording for me is the wonderful Bolshoi chorus, which is why I included the complete intro to the aria in the recording.
Is the 1974 Ermler widely available?
And I'll copy Podrugi miliye soon.
Eventually, I'd like to get the whole thing up.

Aah, I forgot! My only complaint with this recording is the conductor's speed. I prefer it a little faster.
