I have just built a grand mother clock out of oak. What is a good finish to get the luster from oak. I want to stain it wth dark walnut. Is rub on poly any good?

@tkcenterline poly will do fine , a lot of folks use it,

@tkcenterline sounds like a good plan, and should work well, light scuff sand the shellac a little with some 400 or 600 grit paper, to give a little tooth for the poly to bit into
