This is a world's first for a university to step up to a challenge like this I think. The idea is to create a buggy which will complete a course which has bumps which try and move the buggy off course. On top of that, the buggy has to stop within a certain zone for more points (zones 1 - 3 with 1 being the centre)

Aluminium box sections and sheets have been used to create the structure and suspension with the standard bolts and screws to fix it together. Other components consist of universal joints, couplings, optical encoders, motors etc.)

The buggy has a plug in port, as it must be connected to a power supply and has an emergency stop on the buggy, and off the buggy to stop it completely if there are any failures.

The heart of the buggy is the NI cRIO, which stores the LabView Program, which tells the buggy exactly what we want it to do. With the team members I had, we were able to win this competition (GET IN!) with our record time from start to stop in zone 1 being around 8.5 seconds.

Any questions feel free to ask about it Enjoy this video, and our creation, which we have name as, 'Caper Monte Mk I'. Plus, big shout our to my team mates :)

  • I have a hello kitty that's just the right size for that buggy- you should have said! I would have sent it to you immediately for something this important... Congrats, P! It all looks v complicated! Rx

  • @TheCrayonmonkey Thank You Rx! Just thought i'd show everyone our achievements :D We also had the idea for mascots on buggy, so it was like maybe mario kart? xD Ah well, the uni is preserving our buggy so will be displayed in the foyer of out department soon i think :)

  • @FrogChobi Ha, how cute... well done

  • @FrogChobi So it's going to sit in a little glass case? Shame. I thought we could use it to demonstrate to Bury Council that the roads need fixing... /rant

Did you win anything interesting btw?
