More than 4,000 people came out to Tampa's historic Centro Ybor district to check out a truly unique parkour experience at Red Bull Art of Motion. Parkour combines the physical disciplines of gymnastics, martial arts, as well a the pure instinct to overcome obstacles within one's path by adapting movements to their surroundings.

During the first round of the competition, each competitor had 90 seconds to freestyle across the course showing off on and utilizing several different obstacles and features. Based on their run, the top eight contestants (Vincent Coryell, Marvin Ross, Epic Mendoza, Cory Downing, Tim Burton, Jason Paul, Yohann Leroux, and Marcus Gustavsson) advanced to the finals.

However, it was Yohann Leroux of Paris, France who claimed the title as the first ever U.S. Red Bull Art of Motion champion.

I'm sorry but thats bullshit! Just somebody who doesn't practice could say that. Everybody has to decide for themselves. Foucan said that parkour and freeruning is about following your own way, and even if he doesn't believe in competition others may think of it as their way. For me personaly competition helps me to stay motivated, it's in the blood of most humans, how do you think we could develope so far? Just let them enjoy what they're doing and stop hating ;D

I don't practice parkour, but I am a fan. And this is exactly what David Belle and Sebastian Foucan didn't want to happen with free running. This is not parkour nor free running, this is acrobatics and it's competitive, parkour is a lifestyle and a philosophical sport. Redbull you can go fuck yourself, so can the guys participating in this shit.

Your right mate, and so is he. Its awesome to see competitions and etc, but parkour has never been defined as a sport, its always been a discipline. But not sure about freerunning :)

Red Bull pays them prize money for being better than their fellow athletes. Red Bull could pay them to make beautiful videos like Daniel Ilabaca. I consider Daniel Ilabaca the "best" at parkour, not only because he is the most skilled/talented, but because you can literally feel his love and passion for the discipline in his movement.

He doesn't do it to prove anything to anyone, he practices parkour to free himself, to live.

Yes humans have died competing against each other in war, that's exactly why I said we aren't supposed to compete. Are you retarded? Do you have down syndrome?

before you take more bullshit out from your ass, notice how the athletes are overcoming the obstacles in different ways. it's then athletes vs obstacles, physically and mentally. if they wanted to compete against the other athletes, all of them would have done the exact same moves and decided who was the fastest. now shut your trap

red bull pays the god damned athletes, if red bull fucked themselves, the athletes would have to work in offices think about it, they're getting paid to do what they love. you're like the shit eating christians, following whatever the bible tells them and the reason why you think sports like badminton are simple sports is because you think parkour is the deepest coolest sport, and for that, you're truly, truly close minded.

'humans aren't made to compete against each other'

nice try, douchebag. i stopped reading that before i developed an aneurysm from your stupidity because if you opened your fucking eyes you would see that billions of people have died in humans competing against each other. their called WARS. AND THEY HAPPEN FOR PETTY REASONS (TERRITORY) now you stupid idiots look at freerunning competitions and tell me which are worse.

Competition helps you stay motivated because you've been force-fed that shit you're entire life. Parkour and freerunning are for you to express yourself through the philosophies behind movement.

Humans aren't meant to compete against each other, although it is indeed what we do, we should unite and better our world. Parkour and Freerunning is something you practice to find yourself and find truth.

If you want to compete go practice Track & Field, this isn't a sport, stop trying to make it one.
